Joseph "Joey" Colby Bernert

Hello, I understand that you may be navigating a challenging time in your life or relationships. If

you are reading this, you may also be having a difficult time. I want to help empower you to get

through this. I draw on the Person-In-Environment (PIE) Framework, Strengths-Based

Approach, and Ecological Systems Theory to guide our work together and develop personalized,

effective therapeutic treatments.

I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ populations, adjustment and anxiety disorders, couples

counseling, and neurodivergent individuals. My extensive clinical experience enables me to

provide world-class treatment. I have worked with families, groups, couples, individuals,

adolescents, and children.

My prior clinical experiences include:

• Discharge and clinical social worker in a psychiatric hospital

• Clinical interventionist at Oakland University

• Clinical intern at the Gary Burnstein Community Health Center

• Facilitator with StandWithTrans

I have led support groups for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals and adolescents.

Additionally, I have worked closely with children and their families to address challenges such

as emotional regulation, anxiety, and social skills development.
